AHIC Workgroups

Welcome to the American Health Information Community's (AHIC) workgroups Web page.

Between November 2005 and October 2007, seven workgroups were formed as sub-committees to the parent AHIC. These workgroups met periodically to discuss their topics, present their findings periodically at AHIC meetings, and make recommendations to AHIC.

AHIC formed workgroups were:

The Consumer Empowerment Workgroup worked on the widespread adoption of Personal Health Records (PHRs) by developing an electronic clipboard and medication profile. Chronic Care sought to deploy technology solutions for remote monitoring and assessment of patients, particularly in the home via telehealth. Electronic Health Records worked on the widespread adoption of certified EHRs and has conducted an environmental scan on legal/regulatory, financial, organization, and technical barriers. Biosurveillance [renamed Population Health and Clinical Care Connections] focused on real-time public health event monitoring and response management, in particular, ways to advance public health with health IT. Confidentiality, Privacy and Security Workgroup cut across all workgroups in focusing in policies needed for ensuring consumer protection. The Quality Workgroup was focused initially on how certified health IT can enable reporting on a core set of ambulatory and quality measures. The Personalized Healthcare group looked at ways to make healthcare safer and more effective for every patient through “personalization” of care, especially by using genetic information to better understand each patient’s needs and target therapies more precisely.

Workgroup meetings were held in public and notices for each meeting appeared in the Federal Register.
