HealthIT.hhs.gov is envisioned to become a centralized web location for information regarding efforts in Health Information Technology (IT). It is intended as a resource for citizens, healthcare consumers, health providers, and any organizations supporting healthcare and health IT, including federal agencies and others. This site is intended to be topic-focused to allow interested parties to access relevant information by subject area without having to understand the organization of federal and other resources within this industry. This industry is large and complex, but organized, transparent, easy, seamless access to health IT information and efforts is among our primary goals.
HealthIT.hhs.gov has only recently been implemented and, in this early stage, is governed by a charter and Advisory Board. The charter describes the purpose and scope of the site as well as its governance including the composition of the Advisory Board. As the site is expanded to include health IT activities from other organizations, the Advisory Board will also expand to include these organizations as partners.
Initially, HealthIT.hhs.gov is a product of the joint efforts of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). It is intended that this site will eventually include content from other agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as well as other federal agencies in health IT such as Department of Defense/Health Affairs (DoD/HA), the Department of Veterans Affairs/Veterans Health Administration (VA/VHA) and others.
This effort has received preliminary support from the new Administration and is expected to grow significantly over the coming months -- so check back often for updates.
