Privacy & Security “Tiger Team” Seeks Comments on Provider-Entity Authentication–Please comment by November 5, 2010

The Privacy & Security Tiger Team is currently considering policy recommendations to ensure that authentication “trust” rules are in place for information exchange between provider-entities (or organizations).  We are currently evaluating these trust rules at the organizational level, and as such, our scope here does not include authentication of individual users of electronic health record (EHR) systems.  For purposes of this discussion, authentication is the verification that a provider entity (such as a hospital or physician practice) seeking access to electronic protected health information is the one claimed, and the level of assurance is the degree of confidence in the results of an authentication attempt.  (more…)

HIT Policy Committee’s Information Exchange Workgroup Seeks Comments

The Information Exchange Working Group (IE WG) of the Health IT Policy Committee has been charged with identifying and recommending solutions to barriers standing in the way of rapid nationwide adoption of health information exchange.  The focus is both on barriers that prevent individual health care providers from efficiently and effectively conducting health information exchange transactions, as well as on obstacles that impede States and/or State Designated Entities from being effective enablers of health information exchange. HIT Policy Committee’s Governance Workgroup Seeks Comments

The HITPC Governance Workgroup is charged with developing a set of recommendations on the scope and process of governance for the nationwide health information network, including measures to ensure accountability and oversight.  The Workgroup will hold a hearing September 28th to gather input.  For more information about the hearing, please visit http://healthIT.hhs.gov/FACAs.  The Workgroup also welcomes written comments from the public on the questions it has asked hearing panelists to address. The HIT Policy Committee (HITPC) invites you to attend the Privacy and Security Tiger Team’s upcoming hearing on consumer choice technology.  The Tiger Team is a workgroup which has been assigned the task of analyzing and providing recommendations on privacy and security issues on an expedited basis to the HITPC, and ultimately to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. This post is now closed for comments.  We appreciate your input on the Strategic Framework.  Your comments will be reviewed by the Workgroup and considered as it prepares its final draft.

The Health IT Policy Committee’s Strategic Plan Workgroup was charged to develop recommendations to ONC for consideration as it updates the 2008 Federal Health IT Strategic Plan. The workgroup, with input from the full policy committee and the public, has produced a draft, which will be the subject of a listening session on April 6.  The draft Framework is posted for public comment.
