Policy Committee Seeks Public Comment on Potential Stage 2 Meaningful Use Objectives

The Health IT Policy Committee (HITPC) held six public hearings in 2010 related to the future definition of “meaningful use” of electronic health records (EHRs). The hearings included testimony from several dozen stakeholders. The HITPC also received dozens of public comments via this blog. All of this input helped to inform its many hours of public deliberations regarding the future vision of MU (e.g., stage 3) as well as the interim stepping stone of stage 2 MU that will set expectations for 2013 and 2014. Using Health IT to Eliminate Disparities: A Focus on Solutions

The meaningful use (MU) of electronic health records (EHRs) has great potential to improve the quality, efficiency and safety of health care. If we are not careful, however, benefits may disproportionately accrue to those best positioned to implement and use new technologies. Creating a Vision for Engaging Patients and Families Through the Meaningful Use of Health IT

The meaningful use of patient-facing e-health applications has great potential to improve the quality and efficiency of health and health care. Particularly for people with chronic conditions, research demonstrates that patient activation, chronic care self-management, and shared decision making with their clinicians can have a substantial impact on effectively managing their health.
